Celebrating Everything Aussie

Whether it be an Aussie breakfast with the lot, a family fun run or an official Australia Day award ceremony you will find something to help you celebrate your special day in the Coorong District – this year our Australia Day Ambassador is Paul Rosenzweig.

Mr Rosenzweig is a retired Army Officer with 32 years’ service and a dedicated military historian  who runs Anzac Heritage courses to promote a better understanding of the Spirit of the Anzac.

This year Tailem Bend’s Citizen of the Year is Nancy May Daykin of Tailem Bend.

Nancy‘s love of singing, dancing and acting has entertainment our community for years and she has staged so many community events that a list would fill this page.

Her willingness to get involved in different projects, be it the Tailem Bend Singers, Tailem Bend Music Hall and community Christmas Carols, has brought enjoyment to countless residents and she continues to inspire with her active involvement in the arts – exhibiting her works at numerous local galleries.

“I have very fond memories of my time with Tailem Bend Singers, the Music Hall and our Christmas Carols team – very special times,” Nancy said. “I also often thing of my training as a professional Ballroom Dancer – I’m sure it still helps my health to this day.”

Due to Nancy moving she was unable to show Tailem Topics her studio, and as her most recent art works are currently on display at the Coorong Civic Centre Chambers for Australia Day we’ll have to wait until our next visit.
“I love living on the river, but the garden is getting to much for me these days, I’m looking forward to moving around the corner to a new home with a little less garden – the house isn’t smaller, in fact I’ll have a few more rooms for my many projects,” Nancy said.
Nancy’s willingness to ‘have a go’ at anything is evidenced by a long list of achievements which have contributed greatly to the vibrancy of Tailem Bend and her well overdue award.
Nancy will be officially recognised for her contributions as Tailem Bend’s Citizen of the Year at 12 noon on Australia Day, Thursday, January 26  in the Coorong Civic Centre Chambers, Railway Terrace, Tailem Bend – Tailem Bend’s 2017 Mayor’s Award recipients will also be announced at the same presentation.
