Hundreds of South Australian and interstate horse enthusiasts converge on Tailem Bend over the weekend for Fleurieu Campdraft’s thrilling 10th Anniversary event.

The enormous success of similar events hosted by the River Murray Campdrafting Association has attracted the Southern club and Coorong District Council has thrown its support behind the event which will host 140 participants and hundreds of interstate visitors.

Council has signed on as a gold sponsor of the event, adding to a growing calendar of top class events in the region including the 2019 Scout Jamboree.

Council has been an avid supporter of campdrafting, one of the fastest growing equine sports in Australia, since it made its debut in the region two years ago and provided seed funding for the Tailem Bend campdrafting facility, established on the private property of the Hancock family.

Coorong District Council Director Community and Corporate Nat Traeger said Council was thrilled to help bring another event to the region which would provide entertainment for local residents and an influx of visitors from other regions.

“Any community event is a fantastic addition to our region and is another opportunity for our residents to head outdoors and stay healthy,” Mrs Traeger said.

“We are proud to be able to assist our local clubs in not only hosting their own events, but in this case offer a facility for our South Coast neighbours to enjoy as well.”

Popular in New South Wales and Queensland, campdrafting is making inroads into the South Australian event calendar, attracting strong interest from competitors and supporters.

Riders work to ‘cut out’ one beast from a mob in a yard, keep it under control, and then remove it from the yard through a designated course, scoring points as they go.
